I began teaching at Hesperia Christian in 1995. First, I substituted and then taught part-time, two to four subjects a year: Advanced Math and Drama, 5 years; Biology, 1 year; and Advanced Drama, 3 years. When my son started seventh grade, I began homeschooling. I taught Earth and Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Grammar, Vocabulary, English Composition, British and American Literature, Geography, American and World History, Ethics, Social Studies, Government, Sign Language, and Bible. I am a direct teacher. I look for what works and try not to use what doesn't work for too long. Especially when dealing with dyslexics, too much "teaching" has led to failure. I like nothing better than to grapple with a problem until it is resolved. This may imply that I am a more tactile learner myself, but I have seen that I am balanced on all three major learning style fronts. My students have noted that I give good, if off-beat, examples which stick in their heads. These odd-ball reminders are the cornerstone of my "system", as it were.

A Little Bit About Me...

I evaluate the student and see where he/she stands and move forward in progressing their skill. Every instrument is different and difficult in its own way. I will teach the student the most productive way to practice by using the technique I learned by professors and professional musicians. For trumpet, I work on the embochure, and breathing. For violin, I evaluate the way the student holds the instrument including posture. I use a special tape to help guide with the notes which I use as training wheels, and take them down one at a time as the student progresses. The student learns at his/her pace and will vary by the amount of practice he/she puts into it.
