Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.
I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

My teaching style adapts to each individual I work with. I believe that one of the most important things to helping anyone learn is to instill in them the confidence that they can be successful. I believe that there are lots of different ways to learn, and I like helping people figure out what works for them. If someone wants to be successful and is willing to put in the work, I will find a way to help them achieve their goals.
As a graduate of the Air Force Academy and Harvard Business School, I know what it takes to achieve excellence in education. I have earned advanced degrees in Engineering and Business. My love of teaching and coaching brought me back to the Air Force Academy to coach and tutor college athletes in math, science, English, and French. I also have extensive writing and speaking experience and have helped many students with college essays and applications.

My experiences working with students of all ages and skill levels have allowed me to understand the importance of discovering what each individual needs to be successful. First, I believe in establishing strong foundations, so a student is not trying to learn advanced concepts when they need the basics. Also, I use repetition as a learning tool – especially for math-based subjects – because some things just take practice. Last, but not least, I work to use visual aids and to find life application moments as often as possible. I deeply value education, love working with people, and will strive to teach my students not only facts and figures but also how to think and discover the world around them and the potential that lies within them.
During high school, college, and as a working professional, I have taught students voluntarily and professionally in various subject matters. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had almost 10 years of experience tutoring students at the elementary, middle and high school level in teaching math and science. Before this, I went to local Wake County Public Schools to demonstrate science subjects such as ocean waves, ground water pumping, nutrient contamination and water quality in fresh water lakes. Finally, I was a hydrologist, geologist, and geophysicist for the U.S. Geological Survey for over 30 years before I retired. During my tour with the U.S. Geological Survey I authored 18 journal articles and publications.
I have a high regard for all students and believe that if they want to learn, I will find a way to teach them what they want to know. I am patient with students and will try various approaches to teach these students. I realize not all students learn the same way. I have taken education courses and have over 6 years of experience as a subst ... read more

I love teaching and showing people how easy accounting can be and how much it helps you in real life situations. Most students get overwhelmed easily with double entry accrual accounting. I find it best to relate the material directly to the students personal life purchase and income habits. This way they can have a hands on approach and hopefully find the rules easy and helpful in daily financial situations.
As a staff accountant for a large, global corporation (sales revenue approx. $250 million/yr) I have very much experience in all areas of finance and accounting. I specialize in journal entry writing and reconciliations. I reconcile both bank account statements and account balances with my master bank reconciliation having approximately $40 million debits and credits monthly.

I did a great deal of tutoring while attending Rutgers and William Paterson. I received my NJ teaching certification and taught Physics, Biology, Astronomy at Belville HS in NJ, taught Chemistry, Biology and Seventh Grade Science at Blair Academy in NJ. Taught Trigonometry, Geometry at Wayne Hills High School in Wayne NJ. Instructed clases in Differential Equations at William Paterson University, as well as a first year Statistics course. I am currently the Chief Architect and CTO for Forsythe Technologies, but after being a guest teacher for my son's Physics class at St. David's School in Raleigh decided I enjoyed teaching / tutoring and felt it would be an excellent use of my down town.

Teaching to me is about relating the information to the students in a way they can understand. It is very important to make the material relevant to their lives somehow. Therefore it is important to get to know your students and their hobbies and interests. Another key thing needed to teach is patience. You cannot expect them to race through anything. Everyone has their own pace. It is also important to make the information interesting and entertaining to some extent, Especially for younger students. Sometimes an educational game is just as good at getting the information across but at the same time engages the students and keeps them interested.
I have been tutoring since I was 13 years old. Parents of my peers always approached me to teach their son or daughter. After I completed high school with a 4.0 GPA I was hired at a professional tutoring school. There I worked fo ... read more
