Statistics is one of my top subjects!

I have zero formal teaching experience. However, I do have a great love for the beauty of math and a great interest in helping others reach their mathematic potential. I have spent a great deal of time with Calculus and Probability with a focus on detail and problem solving during the course of my actuarial studies, and my algebra skills are incidentally very good.
Easygoing. Math is fun! I believe everyone has the ability to understand and apply math, or in other words, to be good at it. My general approach is to focus on the logical foundations of a given subject and then to exercise that knowledge on practical applications. Nearly everything you need to know is right there in your text! It just takes a careful and thorough reading of the material, much like any other subject.

For the past 28 years, I have worked in Industry as an Electrical Engineer. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Mathematical Sciences with the goal of teaching college math, preferably at a Community College. I have always possessed a love of helping others to learn. It brings me great joy to witness when an individual grasps a concept which they have been having difficulty with. I tend to use a demonstrator style of teaching by first working through a problem slowly while asking the student questions to ensure that they understand what I am doing. Then I help them work through similar problems while providing help until they fully grasp a concept.
I have earned both an AS in Science and Mathematics as well as completed all requirements for my BA in business administration with a concentration in accounting. I believe that each child has its own learning style, therefore as a tutor you must be able to adapt quickly to the specific needs to every child. I think that the most important thing in tutoring is gaining the attention and confidence that you know what you are doing and talking about. I also live by the belief that repetition is the father of learning.
While in college, I have worked with numerous tutoring programs both paid and volunteering. I worked for two years as a tutor mentor for the Upward Bound Program, where I managed a group of 12 college students that tutored and mentored 75 low-income and first generation students in grades 9-12.
