My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary. To this end, I explain every step, do assessments to determine student needs and base instruction on student knowledge. If possible, I like to make sure students are comfortable working alone before I leave and will help students learn mental shortcuts, use a calculator and think logically. Overall I love watching students succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Application Engineer for a research company, it was my resposaability to train, instruct and give seminars on the material currently in vogue in Semiconductor, Biology, Physics, and Geology in materials to be analyzed. These seminars were meant to instruct and inform researchers of the techniques available. Most seminars were at colleges and universities in the U.S. and overseas. I began to wind down my travels and explored the potential of teaching locally. For the past three years I have been a substitute teacher in Tuolumne County district as well as 4 seminars every year.
I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. It truly makes my day, when I see a student that finally "gets" what we are discussing or learning. Teaching is a great joy for me.

As a accomplished student, I realized I always had help along the help with achieving academic success. From teachers and counselors to my peers and older students. I began to help other with academics as early as the third grade, however I began to commit to tutoring in High School and continue it through-out college, in hopes to eventually becoming a teacher in the future.
I believe anyone can teach a subject, having enough knowledge of a subject allows one to pass it on. However, I feel what many teachers do not do is teach students how to learn. It is in my belief that teaching students to learn enables them to think independently allowing them to become more creative rather than repetitive. So not only do I teach students the subject, I teach them how to learn and apply it to every other subject.

As a mother of two small children, I realize the importance of spending valuable one on one time with each child. The time and experience gained by the child is invaluable. I have a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, however I have a long career in sales and marketing. For the last year, I have been volunteering in my girl's class rooms and have enjoyed every moment. The help needed in the short amount of time the kids are in class is so important.

I am a strong believer that every child learns and develops at their own pace and that they will learn with positive communication and development in a fun environment.

I enjoy teaching and helping all children. I am a strong believer that all children can be taught all subjects, and should be given the opportunity to do just that. I am always willing to teach the child, in the best way that will help them, whether this be through explanation, or through a hands on approach. Children are our future, and should be given the opportunities to learn.
Throughout my life, I have always felt very strong about achieving a high level of education. As a older sibling to a child that had a learning disability, I felt it was my responsiblity to help him achieve a high school diploma. From the age of six years old to his senior year in high school, I tutored my brother in all subjects, from math and english to electives. From this experience, I was able to help other children improve their level of education as well.
