I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. Teaching the Physics of Xrays and chemical analysis does challenge one to keep assessing the learned content and modify as results indicate. The results of effective teaching and learning start with asking questions about the purpose of the instructions, how will the results of the learning be measured, and what is educational level of the students? I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. It truly makes my day, when I see a student that finally "gets" what we are discussing or learning. Teaching is a great joy for me.
