My comments on tutoring PSAT : I have tutored for the SAT (and related PSAT) in the past. I have taken the PSAT myself and was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

I am a big proponent of the theory of multiple intelligences and believe that each student has certain styles of learning that work best for them. I aim to help students figure out how they learn best. Once they realize where their strengths are, they can incorporate the concept into all of their studies, not just the subject for which I happen to be tutoring them.
I have tutored a wide variety students on many subjects. I am most experienced tutoring high school students for the SAT. My experiences have given me opportunity to teach/tutor students of different ages, ethnicities, and socio-economic statuses. At all levels, however, I have realized that all students are capable of success. The key to being an effective teacher/tutor is finding a way to engage the student so that they are active in the learning process. I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.
