As someone who has loved reading and books since a young age, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: A career as a writer and a reading teacher. I obtained an AA Degree in Journalism (writing) and a BA Degree in Communications (reading/writing) with emphasis in PR and Journalism. I currently work as the Librarian of an elementary-school library part-time in the mornings/early afternoons. Beyond the subject matter and what I will be teaching, I have to spend some time getting to know the child. If I do not take the time to make them feel important and show that they have value, then the teaching part is meaningless. A relationship has to be established not only between a teacher and a student but, between two human beings. I like creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable enough to ask the most basic questions and ask for help on challenging problems. I don't think there is a better feeling then to see a student be proud they were able master something they thought impossible. If I had to say what method I used to teach students, I would have to say that every student is different, and that what works for one may not work for the other. I would say my approach would be to first understand what may be causing them to struggle, then working from there to teach them to be confident in their ability, and providing the appropriate tools needed to succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! My goal was to graduate college and I decided to seek help. I came across the tutoring center on campus and found a tutor that changed my perception about math! In brief, my tutor was out going, patient and tried various techniques to help me learn the material. I passed college algebra with an "A"!
