My comments on tutoring Anatomy : Based on my background and skills, I am very excited about teaching biology courses for all levels of students.

Teaching allows me to fulfill what I believe to be a fundamental responsibility of biologists: to communicate information to the public so they can make informed decisions regarding the animal sciences. There are basic biological principles that should be understood by college-educated citizens. Among these are the process of animal sciences and a basic understanding of physiology, the interdependence of biological systems, levels of organization in biology, basic human anatomy and physiology, and the basics of scientific decision-making. I have been a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school during their aftercare program. I have also been a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Memphis to a first grader who had trouble with math (adding,subtracting, and multiplication). I have also helped fellow peers study for tests and the Reading and English sections of the ACT.
I believe a hands on approach to teaching a subject is the best way for a child to succeed. I believe that flashcards as well as games help younger children succeed in mastering a subject. Making a subject fun is key to helping a child tackle a tough subject. For older kids, practice tests are very helpful as well as flashcards. Encouragement and support is also an important part of mastery.
