I am a recent graduate of the University of South Alabama, College of Education. I returned to school to earn a teaching certificate in elementary education so that I might expand my career in environmental science as an educator. I have completed two semesters of student teaching, one semester in classroom observation/aide, and one semester as a reading tutor. I believe a "hands-on" approach is the best way to retain knowledge given all learning styles. If we do it, we will remember it. If learning is considered fun, we want to do it and all subject areas can have an element of fun. Positive reinforcement within a structured environment is my style of classroom management and it works. If a student knows what is expected, knows the consequences, and knows it will be consistent every time, problems decerase.

The key to good teaching is adaptability. First and foremost I believe that every individual can learn but we all have different learning styles. Some individuals may learn better using visual learning, others process information better from aural input. I believe in both problem-based learning using hands-on application but also realize that skills such as reading and literacy require some more traditional methods such as phonics approaches to reading.
