My comments on tutoring English ESOL : Certified teacher in the methodology of second language acquisition.

I have twenty years of educational experience teaching Spanish on the secondary level, and other fourteen as an adjunct Spanish instructor for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Also during this time, I have the opportunity to work as an ELL (English Language Learner) coordinator for local school district on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
I sincerely believe my experience and knowledge will have a positive impact and influence in supporting and assisting students with listening, reading, writing, and speaking the Spanish language. My instructional techniques are individualized to meet the specific skills and concepts of the student. In addition, all grammatical skills and concepts are taught and explained in correspondence to the English language so the students can associate and completely understand the rational behind the use and structure of the Spanish language.

I have always enjoyed working with students one-on-one. To teach effectively one must understand what motivates the individual, and the only way to do that is to spend time with that person. If a student is a visual learner, I will use visual aids to illustrate the lesson. If a student is an auditory learner, I will concentrate on lecture or video instruction. The key to good teaching is adaptability. First and foremost I believe that every individual can learn but we all have different learning styles. Some individuals may learn better using visual learning, others process information better from aural input. I believe in both problem-based learning using hands-on application but also realize that skills such as reading and literacy require some more traditional methods such as phonics approaches to reading. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe a "hands-on" approach is the best way to retain knowledge given all learning styles. If we do it, we will remember it. If learning is considered fun, we want to do it and all subject areas can have an element of fun. Positive reinforcement within a structured environment is my style of classroom management and it works.
