I have been a classroom teacher for the past four years in both elementary and middle school. Both of my parents are educators, so I spent a great deal of time tutoring and volunteering in schools prior to my teaching career. I also have a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. My strengths are in the areas of language arts, reading, and social sciences.
I like to observe children to determine what learning styles best fit their personalities and strengths. I believe in the capabilities of all children, when their teachers find the proper ways to motivate and support their learning. I find that building a trusting relationship in which students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking critically are best for making gains.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that education is the key to success and I hope to encourage my students to see the fun and excitement in learning rather than treating it as a task they have to do. I am very creative and patient when it comes to teaching my students. I think all children have natural curiosity and it just needs to be sparked by a patient and fun person. I hope to be that person for my students.
I am driven to help others especially through education. I have a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Duke University which allowed me to have in depth understanding of both subjects. Furthermore I have experience tutoring a college bound student with Biology and Pre-calculus, furthermore I have additional tutoring experience in math, reading, language and all areas of the sciences.

During my college career, I worked in lower income elementary schools to provide students an extra opportunity to heighten their reading skills through direct instruction. Through this experience I have gained new insight into teaching reading. I understand the importance of using small groups and one-on-one instruction. I have also had the chance to use Success for All, a different type of reading instruction. It is also used in a small group setting, but is very interactive using letters cards, puppets, videos, and chants.

First and foremost, I love working with students. I believe all students have an ability to learn once you find the way to connect with them. I think the key is in finding that particular connection because each student is gifted in his or her own special way. All people learn differently, and I approach teaching with this understanding and appreciation of the differences in all students and their backgrounds. As an honors graduate from the University of South Florida, I grew up with a strong foundation in education. I spent my senior year of high school (when most people are occupied by senior year activities and proms) in college doing the Early Admissions Program. I graduated early from both high school and college with honors. During my college career, I held three internships - two of which were in education and the arts.
