Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"

In the beginning being a doctor was all that I desired. Helping others, tending to their wounds and etc was my dream. It wasn't until I had the honor of tutoring others that I realized, my passion to teach was equally as strong as my passion for medicine. I feel no child is incapable of learning. As long as one remembers that everyone is different, and that each person brings a different amount of prior knowledge with them. By bearing that in mind it allows you the ability to adjust and when working with children a teacher must know how to adjust so that each child is reached. I love education, and I love assisting others in reaching their potential.
During my time as an undergraduate I was blessed with the opportunity of tutoring others. I have earned one bachelor degree, BS in Biology with and emphasis in genetics. Along with my bachelors I have obtained two minors as well, one c ... read more

I began tutoring others in different academic subjects while at Forest Hills High School. During my time at Dartmouth College I assisted others--primarily with writing assistance. Majoring in Education & African-American Studies, I endeavored to help others take pride in learning. I helped implement the Academic Peer Advisory Council on campus. Upon graduating from Dartmouth I worked as a Substitute Teacher and After School Program Coordinator. These positions enabled me to provide both instruction and enrichment to students. I have since helped my own children and their peers—especially with basic math, reading, and writing.
My teaching style embraces a strength based approach. I start with what my students already know and build from there. I find that positive reinforcement of previously acquired skills encourages further learning. I also use creative everyday examples to help ... read more

I have been given a few opportunities to teach classes at the college level and I have developed a deep passion for teaching. Tutoring is another passion, because I believe some students simply need one-on-one attention that they may not be able to receive in a classroom setting. I am a very patient, laid-back individual who is passionate about English and literature. Through my experience as a tutor, I have come to love the moment of revelation, that instant where a student grasps a concept that was previously elusive to them. I am fully committed, in whatever arena of education I find myself involved in, to fostering moments of revelation and bursts of insight. I am fully committed to helping students realize their own natural intelligence and to instilling in these students a drive to succeed academically and to go out to change their world.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always believed that a good teacher is the best tool to help students learn. Having personal experience with learning disabilities, I do not think that they prevent anyone from learning; rather, they provide students with a better understanding of themselves. Realizing that we all learn differently, I believe that teaching should incorporate multiple methods of presentation. I think that demonstrations and examples, which relate to everyday life, are two of the best methods when learning a new concept. I have experience with children and adults with ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome, and found they perform best when interested. As a patient and understanding person, I adapt my teaching style to reflect the needs of each student.
As a motivated person, I attended UNCG as an undergraduate and graduate student while working full time. I have received both a BS and MS in Biochemi ... read more

My current subjects are Algebra 2 and A.P. Calculus. I have experience teaching levels 6-12 grades. My strengths are Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Calculus.
In public school, the key to teaching success is the ability to motivate students to try their best by learning as much about each individual student as possible and keeping their attention. One of my classroom rules for students is to participate in everything we do. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of UNC Greensboro with a BS in Exercise Sport and Science. I have also worked 3 years as an assistant teacher and a floater in a daycare. I helped kids with their homework in math, english and science afterschool, as well as helped teachers plan the weekly lesson plans during the summer programs.
Each child learns differently so I try to explain in ways they can understand. I listen to what and how they need help and try to relate that to helping them understand better. I try to get them to discover the answers on their answer and feel comfortable with explaining how they got the answer.

I began tutoring before I began teaching. I have always had a passion for seeing students become successful math students. In the last three years I have tutored over 20 students privately in the areas of reading for grades K-5 and in mathematics from kindergarten to Algebra through Trigonometry. In addition to my tutoring experience I have branched into teaching basic math courses at the college level. I feel that my experience working in community based tutoring groups and structured programs are a great asset.
I love teaching in an environment where the student is made to feel comfortable and that their efforts are rewarded and appreciated. I like to provide my students with as many tools as possible to make sure they get the most thorough understanding of a particular concept. Often times I use hands-on materials, one-on-one settings, and technology based instruction. One pe ... read more
