Having over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience, I have worked in both the public and private sector. I have taught science and math for grades 8 - 12 and have tutored students ages 10 and up. In addition, I ran the library late night / homework help center program at a local high school. After graduating from Rhode Island College in 1976 with a B.A. in Secondary Education and major in Biology, I took a teaching job at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, MA. Here I taught classes in Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science for 5 years. I then returned to Rhode Island College where I earned a Master of Arts degree in Biology with specialization in Microbiology. During my graduate work I assisted in the laboratory sections of their General Biology and Microbiology courses. I enjoy helping other people learn, and I get a sense of satisfaction when they grasp new information. I have tutored students needing help with homework assignments or studying for an exam. I requested that they bring their notes and textbook so that I use them as a reference when teaching. I can either answer specific questions or walk through the material. I ask the student questions about the material to make sure they understand the information completely. If the student is having trouble I will patiently go through the materials again until they fully understand the information. I graduated with a BA from Rhode Island College in 2005, and went back to work on a MA the following fall. I am currently finishing up my degree and should be finished with my MA this spring. I am a graduate of a top small liberal arts research university, where I had the benefit of learning from professors in an academic and laboratory setting in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science. While earning a bachelor degree, I worked as a chemistry tutor and a teacher's apprentice for a biology course.
