Experience Summary
I can offer a student a broad educational perspective with a Ph.D. in the medical sciences and 18 years experience in the Biotech industry. My teaching experience began on the faculty at the UMass Medical School (1993-1999), where I tutored high school, undergraduates and graduate students in problem solving, creative thinking, and scientific writing for publications and textbooks, presentations and grant applications. As a management consultant and entrepreneur I help people stay organized and multi-task effectively – both practical skills for students. Lastly, as a father of 3 in highly competitive private schools, and as a seasoned AAU coach (U12-17), I take great pride in helping students achieve their life’s goals.
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy and primary goal is to first understand and appreciate each child for their unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses, then to channel those abilities toward a better appreciation of the practical value of science and math knowledge. Learning comes easiest when students find benefits to knowledge. Each assignment represents a short term goals, building a student’s confidence with each successful completion. I find by encouraging students to avoid distractions, focus and manage their time effectively, it is much easier to make significant progress on difficult teaching concepts and retain knowledge .
