A Little Bit About Me...

I feel I am able to translate to the student a better understanding of material, so that they are able to grasp the essential meaning of the subject and work with it. This was my motivation into entering the study of wine, both personally and collectively, so that I could make others aware and enlightened by a subject. In the professional world, I have trained all levels of employees on various computer systems (authoring, programming, operating systems, etc.). The training has taken the form of one-on-one, stand-up before a group, and creating online courses for "on your own" classes.
I believe that most subjects are not difficult to master. Most problems come from "under learning" the subject. I begin a lesson by asking a student what he or she knows about the topic. If they have any familiarity with the topic I ask about it and confirm or correct their preconceptions. If the subject lends itself to a real-world example or demonstration, I would offer this for thought. Finally I teach the core concept, connecting it to other concepts already understood by the student. There is usually more than one way to teach a concept. I take into account the learning style of the student. Written or diagrammatic methods might be more effective than verbal explanations. Pnemonics can be useful, but only if the underlying concepts are first taught.

A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring my fellow classmates was an integral part of my college experience. At Yuba College, I tutored math and chemistry in the College Success Center for two school years. I was in demand, as even fellow tutors would seek my help. I was also requested by my physics professor to tutor physics in the Hard Math Cafe on campus. While at UCI, where I graduated Cum Laude with a mathematics degree, I would often help fellow students, even during the professor's office hours when the professor was busy with another student.
