I taught film acting for 5 years in a private studio in Southern California. It consisted of training actors for film work which included teaching sight reading, interpretation of roles, how to be most effective in presentation, audition and on camera acting. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Elementary Education and BA in Special Education-MR, LD, ED, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of children with special needs. In addition, I have learned extensive reading skills due to the extended course work I have taken. During the past 8 years I have tutored students in reading skills and comprehension strategies. I love working with children. I believe that all child can learn. Some may need different way or even different materials to find academic success. I think of myself as a facilitator in the child"s learning. This is a learner-centered teaching style that is very compatible with teaching children of all ages.

I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them. I have worked as a social worker for many years. As a social worker, doing therapy with people is a complicated form of teaching, mentoring, counseling. I a one time for approximately one year taught adults preparing for their GED, or high school diploma. I have worked as a child and family therapist. I also wrote for a newspaper for one year and have many clippings. Facilitating, building relationship, mentoring, supporting, encouraging, and content instruction.
