I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Elementary Education and BA in Special Education-MR, LD, ED, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of children with special needs. In addition, I have learned extensive reading skills due to the extended course work I have taken. During the past 8 years I have tutored students in reading skills and comprehension strategies.
I love working with children. I believe that all child can learn. Some may need different way or even different materials to find academic success. I think of myself as a facilitator in the child"s learning. This is a learner-centered teaching style that is very compatible with teaching children of all ages.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught film acting for 5 years in a private studio in Southern California. It consisted of training actors for film work which included teaching sight reading, interpretation of roles, how to be most effective in presentation, audition and on camera acting.
Aside from working front desk at the Quality Inn/King's Ransom Inn in Sedona (5 years), with Developmentally Disabled (5+ years), Realtor (2 years), and currently as a Massage Therapist (LMT, NCBTMB), I also paint (in oils), and write screenplays (BA from UCLA specializing in screenwriting); and have taught film acting for 5 years in California.

Through my years of teaching I have worked with a variety of learners with different needs. I have worked with children with Autism, ADHD, gifted children, and children with strong emotional needs. I have had to approach each individual differently and focus more on the way they learn, and less on the way I teach. I try and approach teaching from a position of equality, in which I can show what I know, and not what my students don't. I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them. A good education is not only valuable in life, but I feel that students gain self confidence when they see their grades improve and they actually understand their class work.
