Let the young teach the young

Even though I am young, I do know how to convey teaching skills with the "up-to-date" mind set of today's generation. The main experience I have is helping fellow school mates and family with the problems they are having with school work. I did finish high school with a diploma. I have been to many schools and have had many teachers. I have been able to learn many techniques of solving a single problem.
I am fun and relaxed, but know how to get down to the point. I make my teaching easy to understand.

I have taught and tutored both children and adults in a wide variety of situations, from job training and test preparation to tutoring for a specific subject. I have taught ESL classes and done individual tutoring, as well as both group and one-on-one instruction in grammar and composition. I have tutored for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, TOEIC, ISEE and entrance exams. I have created my own materials for such tutoring but also use books available commercially.
I am interactive and student-centered. I see where the student's strengths lie and build from there. We do homework and tests together, and I move from a coaching role to an observational one, only coaching occasionally as necessary. We work not only on the subject matter, but techniques which improve comprehension, retention, organization and motivation.

I have a very diverse background and have been very fortunate in my path of gaining experience as well as education. I love teaching, especially the dialog and relationship that can be developed in its context! I strive to teach in a person relative manner; I endeavor to incorporate learning style, enthusiasm, and positive reinforcement with the hopes of creating an atmosphere of exchange and desire for learning. I am a first year Doctoral student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I was a TA last semester for the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, and I have six semesters of TA experience from Cornell University in the departments of Communication, History, Asian Studies, and Near Eastern Studies.
I am interested in this position both because I enjoy teaching and I have a strong interest in international communities. I spent a portion of last year in South Asia conducting fieldwork for my thesis and realized just how much capital language has in the social arena. When I returned from India, I began tutoring international school age children to improve their English language, particularly in writing assignments. For this reason I am most interested in tutoring children and adults with language barriers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have never taught a subject, physics, mathematics or philosophy, at a level that was beyond the abilities of any student who really wanted to master the material, and I don't think I'd be interested at teaching at that level. Many students are not able to master these subjects in school, but quite often it is not due to a lack of desire on their part, but instead a lack of sufficient preparation due most often to poor prior instruction. I have always been successful in helping students I tutor in overcoming their deficiencies in this area, regardless of the subject.
I wanted very much to teach at the Liberal Arts College level but was unable to secure a full-time, permanent position. In pursuit of this goal, I have completed an MS in Physics, all the coursework necessary for a MS in Mathematics, an MA in Philosophy, and I am working to complete my PhD in philosophy. Over the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my undegraduate education, I tutored people of ages ranging from 6th grade up to the college level in areas ranging from English to math. As a mathematics and physics major, I have a very strong background in both math and science. Now, I am a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Denver also pursuing a PhD in mathematics. So, clearly my strongest area is math, but I have always been an over-achiever in every class that I have taken, and I would feel comfortable tutoring in almost any area.
My philosophy of teaching is that a teacher should let students discover solutions in their own way. A teacher is someone who is there just to lead them in the right direction. It is rarely a good thing for a teacher to just provide an answer because often times this is of no help to the student. A teacher must read and understand where a student is coming from in order to ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to be enthusiastic about the subject matter I teach and that enthusiasm is contagious. My actual teaching style is based on four main factors: (1) the goal of the learning activity, (2) the student's readiness level, (3) the student's learning style, and (4) formative evaluation. My own style of teaching must be adjusted based on these factors for an effective learning result. The goal must be formally stated and regularly revisited. If the institution has provided readiness and learning style information, I will use it. Otherwise, I will informally assess during the actual tutoring. Teaching style should be assessed and adjusted midstream based on formative evaluation to ensure that the learning activity is achieved.
I began my career as an educator and I professionally taught in Colorado, Ohio, Texas and California. When working on my Ph.D in Educational Research ... read more

I became a para and went on to get my teaching degrees.Initially I received a BS in Human Services(This degree dealt with ethics, social work, counseling, and confidential issues) I felt these were issues as a teacher that would be beneficial. A Little Bit About Me...

I came to education from a non-traditional approach. I earned a BA in social studies and a Master's degree in education later in my professional career. As a result, I was keenly focused upon the process of learning. I excelled in my studies and came to be regarded as one other students could turn to for assistance. During my teaching career, I conducted classes in history, language arts, general math, general science, and economics. Additionally, I created and implemented after school programs focused upon credit recovery. Currently, I hold a Colorado secondary teaching certificate in social studies.
I am a student centered educator. Students come into every situation with their own set of experiences. I also am aware that each individual has a preferred way to learn.
