My comments on tutoring MCAT : I took the MCAT before the recent revision. I scored a 40 which got me into three medical schools. I got my PhD in chemistry instead. Physical: 13 Biological: 14 Verbal: 13

I establish rapport with students and quickly gauge what the difficulties are and what they concerns are. I guide you through the process and make is a step by step process to outperform others, maintain peace of mind and graduate on time. Confidence is essential in organic. We build that first and clear up the confusion being presented to you in a way you will see immediately.
I am an organic chemist. I will only teach you at the level you are assigned. My background makes it easier for you. Anyone can learn organic chemistry or the other subjects and standardized exams I've tutored. I focus on understanding and independence with a minimum of memorization. In fact, that's the only difference between an "A" and something that is unacceptable. I hold a 100% pass rate (or better). I've learned how to make the subject simple, save you time, and learn so you retain it. W ... read more

My approach to tutoring is based on the belief that science is a fun and interesting subject. I always maintain a positive attitude and attempt to teach science without being boring. I have good communication skills and can work with students in a constructive, encouraging, and non-abrasive manner. As a tutor my job is to connect with my students, make the subject interesting, and relate it to their lives in some way so they are actively involved in the learning process. In my experience this is the best way to help students become successful.
Throughout my educational career I have always enjoyed science classes. Due to this proficiency I was selected as a teacher's assistant for two undergraduate Biology classes. I also took 3 science based education classes. These classes were a great experience where we worked at a local high school with three exceptional science teachers ... read more

From September ‘08 - January ‘10 I was at the UCD – LRC tutoring students in Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry doing individual tutoring as well as multiple-student tutoring. I sincerely enjoyed my work at the LRC for it gave me the opportunity to become accomplished in many different areas. It strengthened my understanding in the above subjects and my leadership skills. I was able to motivate students in their coursework by using the perspective and experiences of a student and practice being a leader in large groups of students. Working at the LRC gave me a new understanding of myself, as well as a new found self-confidence with not only my own knowledge of the material, but also a confidence in teaching others.
During my time at the LRC, I developed a teaching style where I first understood the learning style of the student (i.e. visual or auditory) and the ... read more

I have realized that the best test of whether you understand something is to be able to teach it successfully to another person. Though being prepared is not a direct part of the tutor-student interaction, it is absolutely necessary for the tutor to be prepared far beyond the basic level. My teaching style tends to rely heavily on humor and I really try to build a relationship with students that is fun for both parties. Particularly in a tutoring capacity, where interaction is one-on-one, I believe a fun working relationship between tutor and student is imporant. I also tend to be very patient in my explainations and try to creatively explain concepts in different ways to match different learning styles.

I am a Visual learner/teacher, I feel it is much easier to learn when being able to visualize what is happening. Many of the sciences happen at such a microscopic level that it may be hard to comprehend what is actually happening so with larger visual aides I believe learning is much easier and less stressful.
I obtained a BA from CU at Boulder in 2004 in Psychology and Communications and I am now currently one year away from attending medical school. I have taken all the science courses required to get into medical school and have been tutored in many of them as a supplemental form of education. In my time being tutored many other students realized how much more knowledge of the subject i had gained above them that they in turn recruited me to tutor them. I have been doing that for approximately six years.

Perhaps stemming from my time as the owner of a successful construction company, I've found that I learn best when I'm provided mental imagery, which often means the employment of analogies and metaphors. Cell biology became simplified when viewed as the textile manufacture and the subsequent distribution and utilization of the products. Due to being a non-traditional student I've also realized that patience is imperative. I've felt like instructors have given up on me in the past, only to keep forging ahead either by myself or with the aid of a tutor and eventually master whatever material was at hand. Also, my experience in the past few years in the E.R. has allowed me to become adept in dealing with and defusing difficult situations.
My experience as a non-traditional student has payed huge dividends not only for me, but for those I've helped during my time as a T.A. and tutor. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology major at Emory University, a heavy science course load was complemented with a liberal arts education. This well-rounded education equipped me with the tools to tutor students in everything from organic chemistry to proofreading papers. After graduating from school I secured a job as a kids ski instructor where I was charged with the task of educating the next generation of skiers. My extraordinary return rates indicate that I am a trustworthy and proficient teacher. I look forward to using my teaching skills and academic background to help others get the most out of their Chemistry, Biology, Math, and English courses.

During my undergraduate career, I was privileged to enroll into the Physiology department in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona is one of 10 schools throughout the country that offer the physiology major to undergraduates. My BS degree is unique, and allowed me to continue to purse a part of medicine I have a strong passion for. I was able to complete a course in Muscle Biology, where we discussed everything from current muscle research to advancements in muscle technology. Along with my bachelor's degree, I received my personal training certification just last year. With this certification I have been able to put into practice what I have learned.
Teaching has become a big passion of mine, and I have taught people of all ages. Everyone learns in a different way--some visually, others verbally. I like to incorporate both into my ... read more
