My comments on tutoring Entrance Exams : Exams all come down to prep and organization!

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

I have been working with elementary through high school students for the last few years and am able to relate to many age groups. I try to link the subject matter to things that the students are interested in so that they not only understand what they're learning but also gain an interest to learn more and help them stay focused. I give students clues to help them figure out problems by breaking them into smaller pieces rather than give them the answers and am patient as they learn at their own pace. I believe that making learning fun and interesting is the key to good study habits and future academic success.
With a lifelong interest in math and science, I received a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Astrophysics/Astronomy. Numerous lab reports and multimedia presentations have developed my technical writing skills, but also have experience with critical and analytical writing. I hav ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style addresses each student as an individual with unique abilities and strengths. I believe that it is important to create a positive learning environment for the child and instill a "can-do" attitude. I approach the teaching of a difficult concept by evaluating the child's current level of knowledge and using task analysis to scaffold increasingly progressive steps to achieve comprehension. My greatest reward in teaching is the recognition that lights up a child's eyes when he or she realizes that he or she can learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was introduced to business and accounting in high school and it was then that I considered a career in this area. Both my undergraduate and graduate education have not only given me a certain set of skills, but has also helped me to understand my field of interest, as well as my academic strengths and weaknesses. This interest in tutoring started when I was in high school and developed during my undergraduate program when I tutored other classmates in accounting. I have a bachelor degree in business management and two master degrees, master of art finance and a master in business administration (MBA).

A Little Bit About Me...

For many years, I have always equated my personal happiness with my scholastic achievements. As an International Baccalaureate diploma recipient and a graduate of the University of Florida, I continue to strive for excellence when it comes to my education. While in college, I earned a bachelor's degree in political science, which has enabled me to gain an acute understanding of many areas of politics, including public administration, policy formulation, as well as many facets of environmental politics. While pursuing my degree, I presented many reports and wrote dozens of research papers and essays on a wide array of topics which had a direct positive effect on the development of my excellent communication and grammatical skills. I have tutored students on and off for a handful of years now, in math topics like algebra and geometry, as well as Spanish, and English.

I believe teaching to be a matter of enablement. The student's immediate goal is to absorb and understand the material, and the teacher's is to make this understanding happen. The primacy of the student's process requires the teacher to mold his or her relationship to each student in subtly but unmistakably individual ways, so the same teaching personality appears to be different to different students. In my case, the approach I strive to extend to all students emphasizes patience in the face of difficulties and confidence that the student's short- and long-term goals, however difficult, are within reasonable reach.

Since completing my Bachelor's degree in Finance, most of my experience has been in a professional environment. I have extensive experience in accounting/finance related functions. As it relates to teaching, I volunteered through a program called HOSTS(Helping One Student To Succeed) for 2 plus years. The program's focus was to teach elementary age students in Math and Reading. I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. After a few questions have been answered then I am able to help them with the details of problem and a help them build a method for solving similar problems in the future.

I love teaching, and working with students. Everyone can learn, and the educator is ultimately responsible to providing multiple styles of learning for students to discover and connect to learning. Tutorial enrichment through remediation is most important for students to grasp and exhibit mastery over certain strands and goals. However, students learn by movement, doing, hearing, seeing, and repeating. It is also essential to "know thy students" and provide a holistic approach so that students can be given many approaches to the learning experience.
I have been teaching in the classroom for about 16 years. Since earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University, I taught English, Drama and Journalism in Texas and in New Jersey for several years, after which I spent another 10 years tutoring students from kindergarten through high school in all subjects when they were required to be home from school due to illness or other situations. I subsequently went into the corporate world and trained adults in the use of computer software and other technical needs. I also was a training coordinator at Walt Disney World for several years, which included providing Youth Education Seminars in American History and Literature.
