Online Music Lessons and Elementary Test Prep/Homework Help

I am currently a general music teacher at Samsula Academy, an elementary school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-5, as well as chorus and band. I received my Bachelor's degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and began my Master's studies at University of Central Florida. I currently aspire to study Irish traditional music in Ireland in the near future, and would continue to offer online tutoring services during those studies. At Samsula Academy, I offer private music lessons. I have mostly taught piano, but I also have taught trumpet, trombone, drums, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and violin. As a part of my undergraduate studies, I took methods courses in all band and orchestra instruments, so I am trained to teach most anything. My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I grew up in Florida, so I am familiar with the content.

Although I have never tutored professionally, I have had extensive experience tutoring friends and family in need. I am experienced in tutoring young children as well as classroom peers at my level. I have two bachelor degrees from UCF, Bio-medical Science and Psychology, and I feel confident in my ability to help anyone learn. I'm looking to earn extra money while completing my Master's degree at UCF.

A Little Bit About Me...

With a lifelong interest in math and science, I received a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Astrophysics/Astronomy. Numerous lab reports and multimedia presentations have developed my technical writing skills, but also have experience with critical and analytical writing. I have utilized my background to tutor students in math and sciences as well as music, even assisting teachers in coming up with interdisciplinary projects to relate concepts in math and physics.
I have been working with elementary through high school students for the last few years and am able to relate to many age groups. I try to link the subject matter to things that the students are interested in so that they not only understand what they're learning but also gain an interest to learn more and help them stay focused. I give students clues to help them figure out problems by breaking them into smaller pieces rat ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style addresses each student as an individual with unique abilities and strengths. I believe that it is important to create a positive learning environment for the child and instill a "can-do" attitude. I approach the teaching of a difficult concept by evaluating the child's current level of knowledge and using task analysis to scaffold increasingly progressive steps to achieve comprehension. My greatest reward in teaching is the recognition that lights up a child's eyes when he or she realizes that he or she can learn.
I have a wide range of teaching experience with K-12 students who have difficulty learning in a mainstream classroom. My academic background consists of a M.A.T. in Elementary Education, a B.A. in Audiology, and seven credit hours in graduate coursework. I have a valid Florida teaching license. My work history includes being a EDEP group leader and ... read more

Educating children is something I’ve always had a passion for. When the time came to pick a career I knew education was right for me. After completing four years of college courses and many volunteer hours, my passion has only strengthened. I’ve had extensive experience with one-on-one, small group, and large group tutoring/teaching. Throughout my education at the University of Central Florida I had a strong focus on teaching ESOL students and even had the opportunity to tutor an ESOL student one-on-one. After graduating with a B.S. in Elementary Education, I completed the Emergent Literacy for VPK course which enabled me to teach Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten for a year.
Through my education and personal experience teaching there is one common theme; all students learn differently. In my classroom I’ve used many different teaching styles to accommodate each student’s learning n ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and helping students learn. I understand that students all learn differently and some may have more difficulty learning certain things. I can relate to many of these students as I struggled in math for a long time. I think this is something that helps me with my teaching because I am able to relate to the students on a different level. I am patient and easy going and understanding. I want students to learn and enjoy learning. The smiles on their faces when they finally get something is priceless and makes me smile as well.

I am a passionate teacher and I take a true pleasure in transferring my knowledge to students in a way they can understand and remember. I am also a big promoter of “creative teaching”. Teaching is very rewarding to me because I love the feeling I get from knowing that I have made a real and positive impact in someone's education and life. Understandably, learning new ideas or skills can be incredibly daunting to children, teenagers, and young adults alike, but I think that this is where I have a real knack for teaching. Not only am I patient, friendly, and thoughtful, I have the ability to reduce a complicated topic or problem into more easily defined parts. By attacking a problem in this manner, I allow the student to follow my lead, while learning a method by which to solve future problems. This ensures that the student is thinking creatively, critically, and analytically, for himself or herself. My goal is to provide him or her with self-confidence and to make learning fun for the student, so that he or she can reach his or her potential.

I believe teaching to be a matter of enablement. The student's immediate goal is to absorb and understand the material, and the teacher's is to make this understanding happen. The primacy of the student's process requires the teacher to mold his or her relationship to each student in subtly but unmistakably individual ways, so the same teaching personality appears to be different to different students. In my case, the approach I strive to extend to all students emphasizes patience in the face of difficulties and confidence that the student's short- and long-term goals, however difficult, are within reasonable reach.

Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
