Currently teaching phonics for Kindergarten and First grade. I am able to teach beginning literacy skills. I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am currently a Special Education teacher for grades K-5. I teach a caseload of 33 students ranging in abilities. I have a significant amount of experience teaching reading, math, and writing to struggling learners. In addition to working with students that have disabilities, I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I teach regular education students within my intervention groups throughout my school day. I have just completed my bachelors degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln). I have had practicum experiences in 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade along with my student teaching semester in 3rd grade. Next fall I will be commuting to the University of Nebraska (Omaha) to complete a k-12 masters degree in school library sciences because I am interested in becoming an elementary media specialist. My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. Also, a calm environment allows a child the ability to think without excessive distraction. Everyone learns in their own personal way and as a mentor I would like to help foster that. As a college graduate and a mentor at a behavioral health facility I have gained valuable knowledge and confidence in one on one guidance. I have a BA in psychology and a BFA in studio arts and I am currently pursuing a place as a PhD candidate in the educational psychology program at UNL. I am experienced in math, english, psychology, and studio art.
