Experience Summary
I have just completed my bachelors degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln). I have had practicum experiences in 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade along with my student teaching semester in 3rd grade. Next fall I will be commuting to the University of Nebraska (Omaha) to complete a k-12 masters degree in school library sciences because I am interested in becoming an elementary media specialist. I also have tutoring experience. In 2009 I tutored a kindergarten girl and a 1st grade boy in reading fluency and comprehension and in 2011 I tutored a 4th grade boy in reading comprehension. I also worked for Family Service for 2 years where I often ran the homework club and assisted all grades in any subject homework that had.
Teaching Style
I like to provide a variety of activities for my tutoring experiences. In my past tutoring experiences for language arts I did everything from flash cards of sight words, to word games, and short stories, to poetry. I also incorporated a lot of nonfiction text within the students interests range because LPS seems to be pushing more and more for students to have more advanced nonfiction skills in order to be successful on the NESA tests given in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. If I were tutoring a subject other then language arts I would use the same approach of incorporating a variety of activities to keep it new and exciting for the student I tutor.
