As far as possible, I adapt my teaching style to my students' needs. When I was teaching beginner-level German to an adult opera singer, I focused on helping her develop her conversational skills and pronunciation, using English to explain difficult concepts. By contrast, when teaching a beginner-level 12-year-old, I used a total German language immersion approach and built on my student's love of creative writing by asking her to write her own endings to traditional German short stories. In general, I believe in a natural language acquisition approach that gives students opportunities to practice, make mistakes, and learn from them. My passion for learning is only exceeded by my passion for teaching others. I have received a well-rounded, liberal arts education. I have learned French for 9.5 years and spent 3 months studying in France. I have taken modern Hebrew for 2.5 years in college. I was accepted to the English Teaching Assistantship program in France where I will teach English to French children this coming year.
I am a patient learner and a patient teacher. First I see how children learn the best, and then, I decide the best way to teach them. A Little Bit About Me...

I have two daughters, two years apart, but only one grade apart. They both do very well academically and embrace the process of learning. At home we focus more on learning and how to search for answers than on simple memorization. I have found that this has given Emma and Claudia an advantage over their peers, as neither are "hung up" on what they remember, but focus on how to use what they've learned and to apply it as a tool in learning increasingly challenging and rewarding concepts. In my job I have been teaching my clients for 30 years. While I hold a BA in American Labor History, I have a deep knowledge base of Central Asian, Near East and Asian history obtained from business experience. While my clients have been adults I have tutored children on an informal basis when asked.
