I love working with children. I believe they all have the potential to be great at whatever they choose – sometimes they just need that extra hand- and that is what I can offer. I am patient, easy going, kind and encourage laughter. My goal is to engage children in the things they are naturally interested in and to make learning fun. I am currently involved in the public school system as a Literacy Tutor for grades k-3. I have earned a BA in Journalism and English and have decided to continue on to pursue my Masters degree in Education. I have been trained in specific reading strategies that can help improve fluency, phonemic awareness, and phonics; as well as vocabulary and text comprehension.

I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I have experience teaching students with emotional behavioral disorders, students who were at high risk for failure and students in inner city schools. I believe that the use of the modalities in teaching are quite beneficial and aid in smooth instruction. Visual, hearing and hands-on activities keep the student occupied and on-task. Each student learns in different ways and adapting all into a lesson keeps an engaged mind. Throughout the past 25 years, I have developed a deep love for learning and helping others. Although I have recently graduated with a degree in business, I am interested in pursuing a career involving people. My previous employment was a sales position that was very customer-oriented.
