I like to see children succeed, especially if I contribute to that progress. Teaching has been personal to me as I have regularly helped my nephew many times with his homework when he was younger. My goal is for students to reach success - whether it is to help students understand a concept or to help them solve a problem correctly, I am reluctant to quit and I keep working until students are on the right path or until they have reached their goal. I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours. A Little Bit About Me...

Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.
I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.

I love working with children, especially the ones who have a disability because every child deserves an education not matter what. I have two disabled children myself and they bring me much joy in my life. Every child in this world have the potential to success and discovery their own hidden talents. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, I tutored in a math lab during the summer of my college years and later went into the Peace Corps in Zimbabwe to teach math and science to high school level students. I have also worked as a civil engineer and have directly applied my civil engineering degree in designing grading and utility plans for commercial developments.
