I love working with children, especially the ones who have a disability because every child deserves an education not matter what. I have two disabled children myself and they bring me much joy in my life. Every child in this world have the potential to success and discovery their own hidden talents. Living with a disability has posed more challenges in my education than the average person, yet I have faced these challenges and overcome them. I earned my bachelor degree in social welfare in three years and I recently obtained my graduate degree in criminology, law, & society - both from the University of California. During my undergraduate studies I obtained a tutoring certificate and studied abroad. Ever since my graduate studies I have contributed to the community by volunteering at a local rape crisis agency and I have also learned Italian, Portuguese, and I am continually perfecting my Spanish.

I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours. A Little Bit About Me...

Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.
I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.
