My teaching style is best described as adaptive. We all learn differently, some more so by doing, others by seeing or listening, and others by thinking it through. Learning is a combination of processes, emphasizing what works best. I believe that one particular style is not necessarily appropriate for all areas of studies or for students with varying assets and deficits. I discovered a knack for teaching while voluntarily tutoring a classmate of mine at Marquette University in English & Creative Writing, (1976). He was a wonderfully bright student athlete, but had never been taught how to express himself well. He can now, and credits me for it. However,I learned the true JOY of teaching during weekly volunteer sessions at the SafeHome shelter, (1994-2004). There I helped kids of varied ages with homework in every subject, whenever they asked, while serving as a mentor to these at-risk kids.
