Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. I taught for twenty five years at the middle school level mostly in a self contained sixth grade classroom. In addition to teaching reading, English, math, science,and social studies, I taught electives is video filming and remedial reading. In my experience as a teacher, I discovered that all students can learn if they are properly motivated. I found that I could best motivate a student if I found what they were interested in, and what grade level they were working at. I also worked for five years as a substitute teacher.
