Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children. My theory of teaching is using the multiple intelligence theory. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn but in their own way. I like to incoporate different styles of learning in a lesson. I also like to incorporate hands on activities, because I believe that doing is learning.
I have been working with children from K-12 grade since 2001. I was part of the Math Academy in 2002. I have been subsituting in grades K-8 since 2009. I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level. I had them write reading summaries and corrected their first drafts. In sixth weeks, I retested and in most instances moved students to a higher level. In my math classes, I tested students and had them begin at the level that they needed to master. If a student could not add, I had him work on his addition skills. I moved students to the next skill level once they had mastered the level that they were working on. Of course, I did group teaching in my classroom, but I individualized wherever possible.
