I am a certified teacher that teaches and works in the after-school program. I work with students from 1-6 grade who need additional help in all content areas. I'm a current highly qualified certified and licensed teacher. I have been involved in my schools after-school program for the last three years that is designed to help academically at risk students from 1-6 grades. In that time I have been introduced to a wide variety of school content. I have also substituted in all grade levels and have a basic understanding as to what each grade level teaches. I make learning relavant to each specific student by getting to know their interests. I also teach using many different modalities as everyone learns differently. I started out my teaching career as a reading specialist for struggling readers in grades 1 through 6. I am trained in a program called Next Steps, which was designed by educators at the University of Utah, for readers below grade level. All of the students that I tutored saw significant improvements in reading and writing by the end of the school year. I then moved on to become a regular first grade teacher for two years. Throughout high school, I had trouble trying to figure out what I wanted to do when I graduated. I took many classes that ranged from Weight Training to Biology. I took many Art classes in which I excelled at. I then took some Computer Technology classes and I loved it. So I figured I would put the two together and took Graphic Design classes. I loved it. I am very competent in using all sorts of Graphic Design programs. I got my first guitar around 8 years ago and just picked it up and learned it. I have been learning ever since. My son & myself have Dyslexia & ADHD, plus, my son has a few other learning disability's, so the experts say. We have learned together how to make all of this work for us. I researched a lot & learned how to teach him how to make it all this work for him. He was on low dose med's for 6 months, I took him off because he learned the difference in 7th grade. No reason for any more med's. I do not think kids should be labeled as "disabled" because others think different then they do! Most of the subjects I have selected I passed with an 85% or better. I also did some tutoring in high school for other students. If I didn't learn it, I am most likely to figure out what is going on. It helps to know before hand what the lesson and subject is, just so I can remember what it is and to be more prepared. I would prefer the library, just because it is big and open. The library in Tooele is a great example. It has rooms that can be used. I would prefer tutoring no more than 10 students at a time. If I can get a copy of the lesson before hand, I can be prepared.
