This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. As a private tutor, I give lessons to students whose ages range from thirteen to adult, and whose level varies from beginner to advanced. The next procedure would involve passage reading and comprehension followed by implementation by putting "pen to paper".
