Experience Summary
I have volunteered teaching grade-school age children in theater at Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, PA and teaching creative writing to fifth-grade students at the William H. Ray School in Chicago, IL. I have had paid positions teaching a workshop in comics to middle-school students at Sewickley Academy and teaching drawing and basic self-publishing at an after-school program in West Lebanon, NH. My education at CCS has included not only art, graphic design and digital production, but also the basics of teaching and self-promotion. I have taken classes in German language from middle school through college, advanced English classes all the way through college, and up to college-level calculus.
Teaching Style
Teaching art is one of my favorite ways to apply my abilities. I am particularly passionate about comics and giving children the tools to express themselves through art and self-publishing, skills I hope they apply on their own after I am finished teaching them. I believe in giving children the same respect as adults whenever possible. In my experience, developing an authentic rapport with children is more effective than talking down to them.
