Physics is one of my top subjects!

I am currently a college sophomore at Florida Institute of Technology studying Computer Engineering so I know the problems a high school or school or college student would face in studies. Therefore, I will be able to communicate with m y students better and help them excel in studies and eliminate their weak points in any subject. I have no teaching style since I believe that to succeed one needs to seriously study and teach and cover your weakest subjects first.
I have taught high school students for five years now. However, I have taught college freshman for a year only. But, I do know what I am doing and I know how to help students. I am patient with everyone so I can communicate better and understand my students problems so, I have always succeeded in helping my students.

I believe in building confidence through success and positive reinforcement. I believe in striving for understanding over rote memorization and will challenge students to apply what they learn through probing and thought-provoking questions and challenging problems.

More About This Tutor...

At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.

More About This Tutor...

I have had the experience of being taught by wonderful, kind, caring, and patient teachers. I have also experienced the teachers who are harsh, impatient, and ridiculing. Through these experiences, I realized that I learned much more through the teachers who were patient and caring. The teacher makes all the difference. Teachers are extremely important in molding and shaping the learning lives of their students. I strive to make learning fun and exciting, because a child/student who is having fun will want to learn more and not just the bare minimum to get by. These skills will last a lifetime. I know that each child/student learns differently, therefore, in my approach to teaching, I try to discern their learning style and best suit my teaching to fit that style. Children/students need exposure to a wide variety of concepts and in a wide variety of mediums. I am committed to prov ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I completed my undergraduate studies at Florida Tech graduating near the top of my class while earning a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Engineering. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in my graduate course work. In addition to my graduate course work I am also working as a graduate student assistant, or GSA, teaching freshman calculus classes and tutoring students. I am comfortable with many areas of methematics and I am confident I will be able to facilitate learning for students of many different skill levels.
I believe everyone is capable of being successful in mathematics. It is only a matter of being trained. I am very meticulous and detail-oriented. I provide insight into the nuances of each particular problem and promote practice, because in the end the only way to do math is to practice math.

I have been an computer and communication system engineer for more than 20 years. During that time I have completed a masters degree in Computer Science and and MBA. Along the way I have been president and chief education officer for a computer user group for over three years, I have shepherded my two children from kindergarten through four years of college each and I have tutored distance learning engineering classes for the University of Florida at Harris. When young, my children required a more detailed and patient approach than would a fellow engineer. When teaching to a formal curriculum, a structured approach is required to insure the proper material is covered and there is a strict time limit.
