A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching in the homeschool community for about 10 years. I have learn many skills on how to handle different classroom situations. I tautht cross county, physical education, critical thinking skills, sewing, and all the other core courses. I volunteered in a local private school to assist when they would need me. As of this October I started teaching at a local tutoring center. Currently, I am teaching on a "on call basis" at a local college.
My philiosphy is to motivate through praise. I believe in speaking words of encouragement to the students. I have seen positive words manifest into good results for the students. At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
