I cannot think of anything more rewarding than teaching and working with young people of all ages because of all that I can contribute to their lives. I strive to meet each student where they are, no matter what level, and yet meet the needs of the group as a whole. A skilled educator experienced in working with diverse population groups, I'm a Reading Specialist and a classroom educator. Designing curriculum and consulting with homeschooling families have been integral parts of my growth as an educator. Seeking to improve my instructional techniques, I obtained a Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy in 2005. Although the majority of my students struggle in academic areas, they ultimately regularly score above the national norms on Standardized Assessments, including Iowa Test of Basic Skills and California Achievement Test.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with students of many different backgrounds, ages, and abilities. I love to help a student find that "a-ha" moment where he or she finally understands a concept that has been a struggle. I enjoy teaching new concepts or working with students to master a concept.
I currently teach in an interim classroom for secondary students who have been suspended or expelled. I teach all subjects, but am most comfortable with LA and math. Before this, I taught in a high school classroom for students with behavioral disabilities. I taught LA and social skills. I also have been a para-educator in a junior high school, a substitute teacher, and taught dance lessons.

I first like to understand the student's learning style, as we all have different methods of learning. Some are visual, others do better with reading a text, or using examples. I use a variety of methods to teach my students, depending on age. I also want to learn where and why the student is struggling with the subject. I make my tutoring sessions interesting so that I capture the student's attention and thoroughly engage him/her.
