Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. Because facts and figures are easily looked up in the information age, I place particular emphasis on thinking and on "learning how to learn". My teaching goals for any student are threefold: 1. learn the material (well!) 2. pass the test/subject (with a comfortable margin!), and 3. enjoy it (most challenging with math!).
I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in m ... read more

My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I am not experienced in tutoring SAT math, however with my skills I feel very confident in tutoring this subject.

I feel that positive reinforcement and patience are two very valuable traits when it comes to teaching. I work hard to ensure that I demonstrate these traits when working with my students.
I just recently graduated California State University with a degree in Liberal Studies. Within this degree I chose to emphasize on mathematics because I want to become a high school math teacher. I have taken every course from Algebra-Intermediate Calculus. I am highly experienced in Algebra 1 and Geometry. I have been working at a probation school for a year and a half with at risk middle school and high school students. One of my many obligations is to help my students in math. I mainly tutor my students in Algebra 1 and Geometry.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate of California State University San Marcos. I earned a BS in Mathematics and graduated cum laude. During the last two years of my education I was tutoring at the Math Lab at Cal State San Marcos which led me to become certified as a Level 3 CRLA tutor. Also for the last two years, I had been working for a professor grading papers and helping out in the classroom. Since I have been working with a wide variety of students, I am now more aware of different learning skills and can accommodate more students.
I love being able to share my knowledge, especially with students who are still in high school. I have learned how to explain math using pictures, words, examples, songs, and many other ways. All students are able to learn, but the process is different for each individual. Once I find out how a student learns best, I am able to create an environment wher ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a United States Peace Corps Volunteer, I worked with local youth in a Fijian village over the course of two years. I created a study groups based on education level and subject matter for the young adults living in the community. I focused lessons on English reading and comprehension, effective writing skills, algebra, calculus, and basic science. Working with youth from another culture and in a foriegn language forced me to gain strong interpersonal skills, innovative ways to tutor students, and the patience to work with students to achieve their academic goals.
I worked with students from the age of eight to eighteen. Each age group provided its own set of challenges and opportunities to strengthen my experience as a tutor. I worked with children in small groups or one-on-one, based on the child's learning style. I encouraged the children to set their academic goals high ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a great way to educate and to learn. As a tutor, first, I see the student’s understanding level. I plan ahead of time and prepare proper material. However, if the material is provided, I find effective methods of teaching, and teach each student accordingly. It’s obvious that some techniques work better for some students but not others. Therefor, I choose a good teaching method, and assist students to learn the material better, faster and easier.
As a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Psychology, I have taken many classes in biology, physics, algebra, psychology, chemistry as well as organic chemistry. Since I graduated with a BS in Environmental Science, I had been a high-school tutor for more than 6 years helping students in the subjects of Math and Science, specifically, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, and Biology. I handled, on the average, 8 students daily - some in groups while others individually. I have learned to understand each student's needs and characters and the approaches in dealing with them. I now have a Masters Degree in Accountancy and believe in the importance of education in one's life. I would like to continue helping students not just to strive but to excel.
I believe each student is different and as such, each should be handled differently. My more than six years of tutoring experience provided me extensive background on students characters and approaches in better presenting the subject matter. At the end of the day, it is important that the student has lear ... read more

Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

I prepare for tutoring sessions by asking any prospective students to please send me their study material prior to our sessions (at least a day please!). This helps me evaluate what may be needed to master the material for their class and is just one of the ways that I cater to my students needs and prepare them for success. I am a firm believer in asking questions. Not only do I ask questions, but I also constantly encourage students to ask me questions as well. This helps me better gauge where they are struggling and where I need to assist most in fortifying their understanding.

I have tutored HS 9-12 and undrgraduate students individually in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and for SAT/ACT testing since the late 1990's. I have also worked with A+ Professional Tutoring -- in San Diego County -- and Tutor.com -- online -- for many years, in every level of the Sciences and Mathematics.
I love Mathematics and I often wear my heart on sleeve; when it comes to Math, I try to infect the student with that bug. I believe that most students have issues with their immediate teaching and, as a result, feel that math has no meaning to them, hence I teach Mathematics in a contextual manner, showing deep meaning for the drills imposed in the classroom curriculums most experie ... read more
