My comments on tutoring ASVAB : I have tutored someone before on the ASVAB math portion and he did fairly well on the exam. He greatly appreciated my services. I am only confident in tutoring the English/Math portion of the exam.

I feel that positive reinforcement and patience are two very valuable traits when it comes to teaching. I work hard to ensure that I demonstrate these traits when working with my students.
I just recently graduated California State University with a degree in Liberal Studies. Within this degree I chose to emphasize on mathematics because I want to become a high school math teacher. I have taken every course from Algebra-Intermediate Calculus. I am highly experienced in Algebra 1 and Geometry. I have been working at a probation school for a year and a half with at risk middle school and high school students. One of my many obligations is to help my students in math. I mainly tutor my students in Algebra 1 and Geometry.

Experience in teaching and tutoring science, mathematics and English. Strong academic background in mathematics: basic mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonmentry, calculus and statistics; science: biology, botany, chemistry, genetics, physics and engineering; English: grammar, reading, vocabulary, composition and technical writing, speech and presentations.
My teaching style depends on the indivual and his/her learning abilities. I believe that anyone can learn a subject if they are moviated and consistant in doing homework and asking quetions.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching electronics, weapons safety, CPR, missile assembly and handling, and weapons handling certification in the military. My style is one of facilitation. Facilitating requires you to encourage the student to use their own understanding as much as possible. I usually use a multiplicity of approaches to help the student better understand the big picture and keep their perspective. I encourage the student to look at the problem with a logical perspective and estimate of what is happening in general terms as a reference point for when they are making their calculations. I also try to get the student to see where the text book discusses the problem, so that when I am not there, they can find the information on their own.

Teaching is a great way to educate and to learn. As a tutor, first, I see the student’s understanding level. I plan ahead of time and prepare proper material. However, if the material is provided, I find effective methods of teaching, and teach each student accordingly. It’s obvious that some techniques work better for some students but not others. I have worked in education in some form since 1996 when I started as a campus supervisor at Twin Peaks Middle School. During the six years I worked at TPMS, I tutored students, co-facilitated support groups, and taught summer school classes. At Chapman University, I completed a BA in Social Science in 2002 and a single-subject credential in Social Science a year later. From 2003 to 2004 I worked as a substitute for the Poway Unified School District. I started a director position for the Sylvan Learning Centers in 2004 and learned how to modify existing programs and curricula to best suit the needs of my students.
