I began tutoring math, composition, and biology in college for 3 years and loved it! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with and minor in math. After college I continued tutoring middle school and high school students in math and biology in both a one-on-one and small group setting. I have been tutoring now for over 4 years and genuinely enjoy helping students realize their potential and succeed! I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. I have worked with children experiencing reading difficulties for many years and have specialized training in multiple advanced reading techniques. I have tutored in a center for children with dyslexia and am currently working part time in an elementary school with first and second graders struggling with reading. I am dyslexic myself, but was not diagnosed until college. I remember too well the shame and frustration of not being able to read. Dyslexia does not go away, but I have learned many ways to work around it. I work to make children understand that their reading problems are not their fault, and that together we can overcome the barriers in their way. We work hard in my sessions but we also laugh a lot.
