A Little Bit About Me...

I have a fairly easy going personality, but know when to crack down if students are getting off topic or out of hand. I'm very approachable and happy.
I graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in English, Single subject emphasis. I am taking a year off before I go back to get my teaching credential in reading. The majority of my classes were geared towards the teaching of reading and writing and I feel confident in my ability to help students improve in those areas. I also worked in a High School writing center and tutored for the past two semesters. I love being around kids and helping them. Currently I live in Tahoe City, but am more than willing to drive to Reno or other areas as well.

Learning can be fun!

I am currently teaching English as a second language to post-secondary international students at California State University Sacramento. I teach all areas of English, including grammar, composition, reading, and listening and speaking skills. I have taught beginning English to refugees in Sacramento, as well as English as a foreign language in Guatemala and Honduras. I enjoy working with kids and teaching the things that I have learned. I am confident that I can make concepts as simple as possible, so people who usually have trouble understanding ideas in math and science may have a breakthough. Coming from a very competitive school like UCLA I have acquired skills in test taking which are very valuable and I would like to pass these on to prospective college students.
