I have a Bachelors degree in Economics. I also took the core accounting courses for the Bachelors of Accounting degree of Cleveland State University. I just passed the CPA last November 2009 after studying on my own full time. In my last job I worked as a General Ledger Accountant for a manufacturing company. I basically did the month-end close for their new acquisitions and did the account reconciliations as well. I also documented the accounting procedures of their new acquisitions. Part of my job was to explain these processes to the rest of the staff in the main office.

I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious.
