Over the past ten years, I have worked for four school districts providing after-school tutoring to students with a learning disability. I have worked with all subject matters from preschool thru fifth grade. I have tutored my niece, nephew and cousin's children all thru elementary school. I have extensive experience in breaking down a skill and teaching it in smaller, more manageable pieces. I enjoy working with children, waiting for the "ah ha" moment to arrive. My experience working with children and adults with Communication Disorders/Cognitive Deficits has provided me with an understanding and experience to assist others in many areas. I have an MS in Communication Disorders. This includes learning disabilities that involve language comprehension and expression, and problem solving deficits. I have also worked extensively with children and adults who have vocabulary deficits as a result of learning/language disabilities. My background and training has also equipped me to assist individuals who are not native English speakers in the areas of reading, writing, vocabulary, and accent reduction. I enjoy working with children and adults. My teaching style is tailored to the individual, as individuals learn differently and at various paces. I am very patient, and flexible. My easy going nature and fun personality allows me to make learning interesting. I have always believed that the best way for someone to learn is to put the information into terms that are understandable to them. In the past I have used illustrations, acted out scenes from battles, utilized initialisms, and made up songs to help students learn concepts. Connections between the content and familiar concepts are essential, and thus I find it very important to get to know the student and how they learn in order to best help them.
