Experience Summary
Over the past ten years, I have worked for four school districts providing after-school tutoring to students with a learning disability. I have worked with all subject matters from preschool thru fifth grade. I have tutored my niece, nephew and cousin's children all thru elementary school. I have extensive experience in breaking down a skill and teaching it in smaller, more manageable pieces.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with children, waiting for the "ah ha" moment to arrive. When it does, there is nothing, like it. I believe strongly in the saying "there are no bad students, only bad teachers". I believe that every student is capable of learning, the trick is to find a way that makes it real and applicable to each individual student. I believe that the keys to success are student motivation, the tutor's flexibility and lots of patience. Show them, let them touch it, model it, read it, break it down into smaller manageable pieces, make it fun,...whatever it takes to increase their desire to learn. While the focus is to achieve academic success that does not exclude making it fun to learn.
