A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy the discovery style of teaching through labs and scientific literature instead of the customary lecture/reading/assessment programs. I also like to provide many different ways for students to be successful.
I have a degree in Biology Education/Science Education from Central Washington University and did hold a Washington State teaching certificate in Biology and General Science until I moved down to California in 2000. My certificate enabled me to teach any secondary school science class. In addition to Biology I have extensive coursework in Physics and Chemistry as well as classes in Astronomy, Geology, Paleontology and other scientific pursuits. I did long-term substitute teaching in Washington along with teaching General Biology at Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima, WA.

Between 1983 and 1989, as a long-term substitute teacher for the ROP (in CA), I taught Computer Sciences (which included Elementary Math and Algebra)at Anderson Valley High School in Boonville CA. As a full-time teacher, I taught Culinary Arts for the ROP for four years at the Fort Bragg High School, Fort Bragg, CA. I tutored students off-hours on an ongoing basis during my tenure as a teacher. For the purpose of this application, I am very interested in tutoring learners in English. I excelled in English in school and have tutored others in English. I began my career in education in 1993 as an Instructional Aide. That experience cemented my desire to be a teacher. Since that time I have devoted myself to getting the education necessary for that dream to come true.I now have a Bachelor's in English, and a Master's in Education. While attending school I tutored after-school students and substituted whenever possible. Concurrent with my Master's studies I was attending the teacher training program. I hold an Institutional Recommendation for Credential. My Master's degree has an endorsement for teaching SEI (Sheltered English Immersion), and I hold a certificate for teaching TESL.
