Working with children has always been somewhat natural to me, probably due to the fact I spent so many of my summers teaching, playing, and caring for them. I was a camp counselor for five summers and my primary duty was the classroom. I was in charge of arts and crafts and teaching lessons/themes of the week. My qualifications to teach English as a second language stem from the fact that I have faced this beast from both sides of the fence: first, as a learner of a second language, then as an instructor. In 2007, I returned from almost 10 years in the country of Albania where I learned the native language and became adept at knowing how a language is learned, some of the pitfalls involved, and some of the factors that make it not just doable but enjoyable. I would seek to emulate the university style of lecture and assigning hands on projects. I believe this is the most effective model since it provides repetition, allowing the student to better memorize the material. Furthermore, projects allow the student to be creative, and design programs in his or her own fashion. I've had one formal year of education in programming at College of the Redwoods. The first semester course I took was intro to C++, and the second semester course was C++ with Data Structures. At HSU I studied extensively in the field of education; cumulating in writing and presenting lessons to students at Eureka High.
