I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. In my masters program and while I have been teaching, I have learned many ways to get students engaged in the material they are learning. Some students learn better with one on one and some do better with group work. You just have to try different approaches until you see which one works best. Sometimes it just depends on what is being taught. If you show interest in the student he/she will show more interest in your class or subject area and do better.

A Little Bit About Me...

Originally, in college, I was an Education major but, the hours required by the education department for Biology seemed meager. So I switched my major to Biology and graduated in the summer of 2009. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring my peers in college in the general biology courses. I also would take it upon myself to find more information to study from for specific classes and share this with my other classmates so that everyone would do well, instead of keeping it for myself.

First I would like to get to know the student and parents, focusing mainly on the student's interests and goals as well as how they feel about the particular subject they will be tutored in. After that I would have the student show me where they currently are in class and what they need help with. Then, depending on the particular circumstances, I would create a plan to get the student caught up and self-sufficient as quickly as possible. Even though fast results are what I hope for, the student would set the pace of the sessions. No topics would be overlooked and they would all receive as much time as the student needs to master them.
