A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored peers in different levels of math in high school, worked in a first grade classroom my junior year helping the teacher with spelling, reading and math. I volunteered in a preschool in all the ages of classrooms and helped with arts and crafts, letter practice with the older age groups and reading with all the ages. Also I helped my nephew with his kindergarten homework and my ADD/ADHD niece with her fifth grade math.

My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion. Children are amazing! I have been around children of all ages for most of my life due to a large family. Every child has an opportunity to be the next Albert Einstein however I feel that it is the lack of understanding on the teachers behalf on how to teach to the different needs of the children that keeps the children from learning all that they could.
