A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored peers in different levels of math in high school, worked in a first grade classroom my junior year helping the teacher with spelling, reading and math. I volunteered in a preschool in all the ages of classrooms and helped with arts and crafts, letter practice with the older age groups and reading with all the ages. Also I helped my nephew with his kindergarten homework and my ADD/ADHD niece with her fifth grade math.
I am a patient teacher, which helps the ease the learning environment.

I feel after all these wonderful years that I can assist any student who wants to learn as well as those who think they don't. My style depends sometimes on each indiviual's need. In teaching, I believe it to be very important to gain the student's interest within the subject matter. With an interest comes greater understanding and retention. "How many different ways can I teach a concept?" is the mentality I use when working with students. Every student learns in his/her own unique way. Being creative, adaptive, and fun are essential. I live for that "ah-ha moment" where everything clicks. It's no secret that we succeed in the things that we love doing. I love working with children and I strive to create a learning experience that engages my students. My goal is to leave my students eager to see what's in store for them in the next lesson.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While earning this degree I was given the opportunity to gain experience in working in various classrooms at many different grade levels. I feel most confident in my teaching skills when working one-on-one with students or in small groups. My age areas of expertise are Kindergarten-6th grade.
