My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I just finished my first year at CWI and am currently taking English 102 - took predominately English, editing, computer, marketing, and math classes. I also home schooled my children for ten years, was a teacher's assistant for six years in elementary schools, and taught first grade in a small private school last year.

Learning should be fun, yet focused. I also use the Socratic Method which asks questions instead of answers in order to invoke student thinking.

My teaching philosophy is based on how children learn. I believe that children learn in diffrent ways, and I can help them meet these needs by making modificaitons and accommodations to any subject. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment.
