A Little Bit About Me...

While in college I have gained experince in and out of the classroom. I have worked with children for a total of eight years. I have tutored students in math, reading, social studies, and language arts. I have worked with children in grades k through 8th grade. I have earned a bachelors degree, B.S in Multidiscplinary Studies and two minors in ESOL and Elementary Education. I hold an Initial I Teaching License in Oregon, and I am highly qualified to teach self contained multiple subjects and ESOL, in grades pre-k to 8th grade. I am also currenlty working on a Reading Specialist Endorsement.
My teaching philosophy is based on how children learn. I believe that children learn in diffrent ways, and I can help them meet these needs by making modificaitons and accommodations to any subject. As a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University (BA, History, 2000) and Boise State University (BA, Political Science, 1995), was very much driven to academic excellence. My degrees have enabled me to learn how to read and critically analyze content and to determine the credibility and reliability of the information I receive. These skills have enabled me to make evaluations regarding the messages I receive from other people and the media each day. I am then able to make a determination regarding it's validity and how I might help a student based on those evaluations.

When I was a high school student, I tutored pre-algebra, geometry and algebra, Shakespeare, World Literature, and Earth Science. I managed my own clients and improved test scores with every client. During the summer of 2005, I tutored mentally disabled children in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I attended the University of Idaho and have received a B.S. in Mathematics. While there, I worked at the Polya Math Lab, tutoring college algebra. I continued to tutor on my own during college, and have tutored in all forms of vector calculus, from methods of integration to 3d modeling. I have been involved in offering educational services since I was in high school, when I tutored younger students in math, Spanish, research writing, and general elementary subjects. A career in education was a natural choice, and I have taught both ESL and Spanish, with experience in elementary and secondary teaching, as well as teaching online.
Having taught small and large classes, as well as one-on-one, I am a firm believer in the benefit that one-on-one and small group instruction can offer for students. As a teacher, I love being able to identify and capitalize on students' interests and strengths.
